Medieval Market in Turku,
artisans of ancient techniques
(a.k.a. we) at our best :)

Was an absolutely amazing experience! Our group had our own tent as soon as you arrived at the exhibition area, and there were lots of demonstrations: spinning, making dream catchers, braiding, nalbinding, tablet weaving and so forth. As a small detail, one of our guests braided girls' hair during the event - however, the customs and morals in the 16th century kept women's hair strictly hidden in public. A few visitors paid attention to this inconspicuous detail, ten points for them for being extra observant!
A few more shots below. According to the Medieval Market website, over 155,000 guests attended the event. Quite a number! Yeah okay, I noticed that myself on Saturday when I really had to set aside time to look for food. All in all the days went by quickly and on Sunday I think we all felt a bit sad, if relieved, to take off our costumes! But luckily there are enough of events, the anticipation is already in Hämeenlinna and especially in Kuralan Kylämäki - see you there 👋
I had my spot for card wieving. |
Those behaving badly were in for a free treat in form of a photograph :)
